The Participatory Design Conference (PDC) 2018 is looking for student volunteers!

5 good reasons to join the PDC18 student volunteer team!

Get insights into the latest design and research in the area of participation in design.

Get a chance to meet the names behind the papers and books.

Take part in the conference for free. International volunteers (not studying or resident in Belgium) can also apply for five nights of free accommodation (Sunday to Friday).

Network with PDC18 participants.

Socialize with the other student volunteers. Whether this is your first time at the conference or not, you are welcome to apply. Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of tasks, such as preparing and set­up of the exhibition, registration/ticketing, photography, technical support etc., and will be expected to work 18-20 hours over six days (Sunday – Friday). Each volunteer gets one full conference day off.


Please submit an application – max 1 page (+ 1 page CV) – including:

  • Name, contact information, affiliation, nationality, country of residence, educational background, current position, etc.
  • Motivation for your interest in participatory design (200 words).
  • Your skills (200 words): how can you contribute to make the conference even more successful? Please relate this to one or more of the points below:


Registration + workshop

  • Support in the registration/workshop preparations.

Social media

  • Assist the Communications Chairs.
  • Contribute to providing content on all platforms before the conference.


  • Document the conference through photography, video, etc.
  • Edit material for sharing on social media.

Situated actions: exhibitions and actions

  • Set up and support the actions in the city space.
  • Set up and support the exhibitions in the conference venue.


  • Assist speakers (presentation setup, checking slides, microphone).


  • Print + hang up signs for guiding etc.
  • Pack conference bags + workshop kits.
  • Help with poster walls.
  • Prepare registration desks + prepare physical facilities.


  • Support at reception desk.
  • Help participants to move between conference venue(s) and other locations.

We expect to accept 20 student volunteers including at least 8 international students.
