Getting Around
The first workshop days, travel from Hasselt to Genk
By foot
Both Hasselt and Genk are clean, compact and well-organised, which makes walking an excellent and enjoyable way to get around.
By bike
There are rental bicycles available at the train stations in Hasselt and Genk (www.blue-bike.be), which are probably the most interesting way to see the two cities.
Hasselt campus has an unguarded bicycle park on Koekerellenpad (the path between Oude Gevangenis and the Rectory building). LUCA School of Arts has an unguarded bicycle park, located in the underground parking garage.
By bus
Hasselt campus is easily accessible by bus. You disembark at the ‘Kolonel Dusartplein’ stop.
- Regular fast bus services from Maaseik, Lommel, Neerpelt and Geel stop in front of Hasselt Station. There are also good connections to Hasselt from virtually every municipality in Limburg.
- The Boulevardpendel (‘Boulevard Shuttle’, which will take you near the faculty, also leaves Hasselt Station every 5 minutes. Get off at the ‘Kolonel Dusartplein’ stop. The bus journey from the station to Dusartplein takes about 8 minutes. From Kolonel Dusartplein, follow the signs to ‘Faculteit Rechten – Universiteit Hasselt’.

By taxi
To book a taxi, please consult this website (for taxis in Hasselt) or this one (for taxis in Genk) or ask your hotel receptionist. There is a taxi stand right outside the train station of Hasselt. A taxi at Kolonel Dusartplein costs about €5.00. From Kolonel Dusartplein, you can walk to Hasselt Campus.
By car
Hasselt is easily reached via the E313 (exit 27, 28 and 29) and E314 (exit 29) motorways. There are numerous car parks in and around the city centre. You can leave the car on the outskirts of the town and finish your journey by bus. Free parking is available close to Hasselt University on Vilderstraat and Koning Boudewijnlaan. Other free parkings in or near the city centre include: Vildersstraat, Mouttoren, Kolenkaai, Truierbrug zuid and Cultureel Centrum. Paid parking garages include: Kolonel Dusartplein (800 spaces – near Hasselt campus), Molenpoort, TT-wijk and Luikersteenweg. Parking in the centre zone – within and on Groene Boulevard – must be paid for during the day (9.00h – 19.00h). On-street parking costs one euro for the first hour and two euros for each subsequent hour. Information about parking in Hasselt can be found at: https://www.hasselt.be/nl/gratisparkeren
Genk is easily reached via the E314 (exit 31) motorway. From the exit, signposts will guide you to C-mine and the city center of Genk. Here too, there are numerous car parks in and around the city centre. Free car parking is available below the conference venue in Genk (C-mine). If you drive into the centre of Genk, you will probably pass on of the three car parks. At the Europalaan (Molenvijver, between the Oosterring and the Albert Remansstraat) you can park for 3 hours (provided the placement of a European parking disc). You can also park at the Limburghal and at the Hooiplaats.
